Surface Go, the cheap Surface
These last weeks have been loud rumors that pointed to the presentation of a cheap Surface by Microsoft . And no, it has not been one of those leaks that do not lead anywhere, since Microsoft has officially submitted Surface Go, the cheap surface to stand up to Apple .
Surface Go is the new bet of Microsoft with this family of devices 2 in 1 to take control of the market of the devices of less than 500 dollars. A few weeks ago we told you that the first leaks on the device pointed to a Surface of less than 400 dollars with a screen size of 10 inches, and both details have been confirmed.
The new cheap Surface of Microsoft will have a screen of 10 inches IPS that will have a resolution of 1,800 x 1,200 pixels with formed 3: 2 (which we can see in the Surface Book 2, for example). To give life to this screen, and the content that we want to run, Microsoft has opted for a modest hardware, but that should be more than enough for the type of tasks we will perform on the device.
We are an Intel Pentium Gold 4415Y processor , a CPU with two cores and four threads (not bad that there is virtualization in this case) with a base frequency of 1.6 GHz. Of course, it lacks ” boost ”. The RAM will be 4 GB or 8 GB of the LPDDR3 type and will equip 64 GB of eMMC storage that we can expand with SSD options of 128 or 256 GB. Of course, if we want, we can use the microSD slot to get some more space.
In this sense, it reminds us a lot of the first generation Surface Pro, devices that, even today, can give much ” war ” in office tasks and content consumption. In terms of size, the Surface Go will have a weight of just under 550 grams and the connections will be a USB Type-C, the Surface Connect port (to charge the device or connect it to a dock) and a 3.5 mm Jack for headphones. In terms of autonomy, Microsoft says it will leave at 9 am, although it depends on the use we make.
Price, launch of Surface Go and Windows S
This new cheap Surface is postulated as a very interesting device for certain tasks, since it will be a ” tablet ” for less than $ 400 with a complete operating system. Of course, as standard, the cheapest model will have Windows 10 S , although we can update to use applications beyond the Microsoft Store. Of course, Surface devices stand out for being really well optimized, also in drivers (so we do not need these programs to search for them ) and Windows 10 S, for certain uses, is interesting.
There will be other prices for the Surface Go , as well as different configurations that we leave below:
- Surface Go with 4 GB of RAM, 64 GB eMMC and Windows 10 S for $ 399.
- Surface Go with 8 GB of RAM, 128 GB of SSD and Windows 10 S for 549 dollars.
There will be a version with 256 GB and LTE connection (which would make it almost a device “always connected”) for a price that has not yet been confirmed. What we do know is that there will be accessories that will be sold separately. The Surface Pen will sell for 99 dollars, the keyboard for another 99 dollars (there will be a variant with the Alcantara texture of Microsoft for 129 dollars) and the mouse for 35 dollars.
The launch of Surface Go is scheduled for next August 2, and we must see how the market responds and, above all, what the Pentium processor is capable of.
